The first capital city of Pakistan post-independence was Karachi. In 1958, the capital was changed to Rawalpindi and later in the 1960s it was changed again to Islamabad. Islamabad was designed with the idea of a new purpose capital city focusing on higher standards of living.
It was on this day in 1940 that Muslims of the sub-continent passed the Pakistan Resolution and made the demand for a separate homeland where they could freely lead their lives in accordance with Islamic ideals.
